Christmas is done and over and it's been forever since I've posted. I've really enjoyed being at home with the boys these past 2 weeks, and am not ready to go back to work next week! Evan has his allergy testing on Monday, and I start another round of teaching at Tech Monday night. January is going to be a busy month, but that just means we are one month closer to summer break!

We had a busy Christmas, as always! The Huff's got together Friday the 18th, the Reed's on Saturday the 19th, and then we had Christmas with my family on Sunday the 20th. Easton was upset because after that Sunday he thought Christmas was over and he never did get his DSi! But, Santa came through for him this year, and he sure was excited! Evan is at the age where clothes aren't that bad of a gift after all, and his wardrobe now includes Hollister thanks to Grandma Deb and Grandpa Dick!

I am off to shoot a wedding this weekend - Matt is helping me, so we'll see how this goes! Usually my mom goes with me to adjust ties, flowers, etc. Not sure how much help Matt will be, so I made him a checklist to help me get through it! Pray for me!! Better yet, pray for Matt that he comes home in one piece!

Weekend Fun

We decided to head to Indy for the day on Saturday...Evan had a basketball game and then we headed down!

Here is a picture Easton took at the game (we have to entertain him somehow):

We spent the afternoon at the Fashion Mall and Castleton...even managed to get our photo with Santa (believe it or not, this is the first time since Easton was a baby that he would go NEAR Santa! And, this what the site of his first Santa visit!)

We then went to Buca's downtown for my belated birthday dinner. Matt's family met us there and we had a great time, although the service was awful!

Although we didn't get home until almost 2 a.m., we had fun!

Halloween 2009

For the past few weeks, Easton has told us that he doesn't want to go out for Halloween. He is scared to death of spooky things - he about had a panic attack in Walgreens the one day - he did a 180 and ran the other direction! Evan doesn't even like candy (yeah, I know...whose kid is he?)

I told him we could stay home and pass out candy, but he told me I could...he just wanted to play the Wii. Then Thursday before Halloween comes, and now he decides he wants to go trick-or-treating! So, we decided instead we would just go out for dinner. At least now I don't have to worry about a bowl full of candy sitting at my house tempting me!

Growing up, my mom served on jury duty, and I always thought it sounded like so much fun. I am almost 33 and have never got called to serve...UNTIL NOW!!!!! I opened this on Saturday:

Have you ever heard a song and you felt like it was speaking to you? Last night at church I heard a song by an artist that is now at the top of my list...Jimmy Needham. His song, "A Breath or Two", really spoke to my heart. Here are some of the lyrics:

These past few weeks feel like I've been in a race with life...I've been crazy busy, and this song just made me think how I need to slow down and breathe in life. I'm running here and there, teaching, grading, taking photos, editing photos, being a wife and mother, and I'm trying to keep my head above water. Believe me, I am very grateful for all that is in my life right now and for all the photography business I have been blessed with. But sometimes, we all need a break! This weekend I've been able to sit back and enjoy - and it's been good for me!

I am looking forward to a long weekend coming up scrapbooking with some of my great friends. I need it!! Who knows...maybe I will just sit and breathe a breath or two!

Actually, this is just the calm before the storm! Tonight was the last night of one of the two classes I'm teaching (yeah!) - I really enjoyed it, but teaching two classes each week ON TOP OF my regular job has been crazy! And on top of all that, this week is Homecoming, so I've spent two nights at the bus garage.

I have a wedding to shoot this weekend, so I will have pictures to share! Lots of sessions coming up...engagement, 5 seniors, and one family...so the next month will be busy! I am already booking into November! Just in time for holiday pictures to send out with Christmas cards! I have had awesome clients so far this season, and am really looking forwards to these next few weeks with new locations to shoot at! I feel truly blessed to be doing this...when I'm behind my camera the rest of the world seems to fade away!

#73 - Friday night, the boys scrimmaged at half time of the Varsity football game. Evan was pretty excited to play on the big field! The first two pictures were from his first game today. They won 14-8 (in his league, a kicked extra point is actually worth 2). Way to go White!

Summer?

So summer is quickly coming to an end, and I don't have many pictures to show for it! Maybe we haven't done much this summer, but I've enjoyed every minute of it! Just spending time with my boys has been great! They tend to get frustrated with me when I pull out my camera, so it's stayed on the shelf!

So...what have we been doing? Running here and there, playing Wii, and just enjoying being with one another! Baseball finished, the boys took tennis lessons, we saw the new Harry Potter movie, and will be headed to Cinci. in a few weeks for one last weekend before school starts!

Evan's not looking forward to school starting, but Easton sure is! He can't wait to stay at school ALL DAY this year! He's in his last year of preschool, but he loves it - I hope this continues for the next 13 years! He's already career planning...Saturday night was a gorgeous clear sky full of stars. Easton told me he wished the starts were closer to him so he could touch them. I told him he should be an astronaut so he can fly to the stars! Last night, he told me he wants to be an astronaut or a sea monster - quite the comparison, huh? And coming from the kid who has to spray scary monster spray each night before bed??!!! (not sure where to send him for that education...)

Next week is full of last minute things - water park, lake, hair cuts. Maybe I'll have some pictures to share then. But for now, I hope you are enjoying your summer as much as I am!

Went to the Porter County Fair last night...saw The Starside, Fireflight, and Switchfoot. It was a great concert, and Kayla was so excited! Seeing them in concert was on her Bucket List - glad I was able to be a part of it! And, Kayla, you should use orange for me!

Yes, you read that title right...sew? If you know me at all, you know that I have not used a sewing machine since high school FACS class, and even then, I don't know what I was doing in that class!

My cousin Tara had great faith in me that I could do this. When it's done, it will be a wall hanging. I plan to put it in my scrapbook room (if it ever gets finished). If I can do it, anyone can! It has been a lot of fun...here are some pictures when we started - I will share the finished product hopefully later this weekend!

Peyton Manning, Memorial Day and T-Ball

I have much to update - if I would blog more often I wouldn't have to include so many events in one post!

Evan played Peyton Manning in the 4th grade Indiana history play on Friday - he did a great job, and he seemed to really enjoy it!
We spent Memorial Day at my aunt's house - the kids (and a few of the adults!) had fun playing kickball, while the adults played corn hole.
Easton didn't understand what people were doing in here - once we told him people were underground, he quit running through the graveyard!
And, last but not least, Easton has found a sport he really enjoys - t-ball! He loves to slide into home!

California

I was fortunate enough to travel to Anaheim recently - I had a HS student qualify to compete at the DECA International Career Development Conference.

My two good friends Becky and Goudy:
We were headed into the mini awards session to see if she made it to the finals. Unfortunately, this year she did not qualify, but she's only a sophomore!

My roommate, Kristin, and I attended the Dodgers game. We were able to watch Manny hit a homerun (he won't be doing that for awhile!). It was DECA night...DECA members had seats under the scoreboard on the right of the photo. We bought our tickets at our hotel - Great Seats! And, we had great company behind us! Kyle works at Disneyland...we had a lot of laughs with him and his family!

The three of us decided to rent a car and drive into Hollywood - behind us in the mountains is the famous "HOLLYWOOD" sign! We had a great time seeing the sights, and seeing them get ready for the premier of Star Trek!

I spent an entire day at Disneyland - all by MYSELF! It was amazing...not the park, but experiencing it alone!! I did finally call my mom after about 4 hours of being there just so I could talk to someone! I rode the rides I wanted to ride, got to sit in the front of the monorail, shopped and ate when I wanted, and didn't have to worry about standing in long lines with crying children!

Overall, it was a great getaway! It's always a fun time meeting up with my Marketing teacher friends and celebrating Indiana students' success!

This stinker...he decided to walk home from the ballpark tonight, without telling me! As I was frantically looking for him, Matt tells me Easton commented about walking home! I had a nice "calm" talk with him and put him straight in the bath. While in the tub, he calls for me and asks me, "Are you still mad with me?"

Evan's team is now 4-0! Way to go Reds!

It's official! I am done with my Master's Degree - and can't be more excited! We traveled to Ball State for the ceremony...I wanted the boys to see me walk across the stage and hopefully understand that education means everything! (Easton slept through the entire ceremony!)

Spring Break

We spent the week in Myrtle Beach - I had every intention to blog with pictures and all while we were there...left my camera cord at home, and internet at the condo was awful! So, quickly scanned my photos for some of our highlights:

Evan loved the trampoline jump at Broadway at the Beach - we tried to get him to do flips, but he couldn't quite figure it out!
Although we only had 2 good weather days, the boys still wandered out into the ocean (I'm sure it was obvious we were tourists!). Easton found this rock and played with it the entire day on the beach!

Monday night Matt got to choose the restaurant - we ate at Benjamin's Calabash - 170 item buffet! Loved the hush puppies they served us when we sat down! Evan ate mostly chicken, but Easton loved the crab legs and shrimp! He got his $2.95 worth!! (don't let that price fool you - the adult buffet was $26.95 per person!)
Thanks to Evan, I got to be in a few pictures - this was on our balcony. As Evan said, "Not much of an ocean view, mom!"

We had a great time...but it's always nice to be home. Back to work tomorrow! Only 7 more weeks...I can't believe how fast this school year has gone!

Yep! That's right...I finally got to see my FAVORITE coach up close...all those years my dad promised to take me to an IU basketball game. I had to go watch Notre Dame just to see him - it was worth it!! I LOVED Bobby when he was at IU, even if he did have a temper and liked to throw chairs!

And now, on to cheer on the Boilermakers - they have a tough game tomorrow night, but hey, they made it to the Sweet 16. Boiler Up!!

No, not today...but I have an engagement shoot tomorrow! Instead I wanted to take a minute to write a few things I am thankful for right now:

1. Colleagues who truly care for our students. After facing a tragedy at school last week, it's always reassuring to know teachers DO really care about your kids!

2. My job. I love what I do. After Evan was born, I thought I would just be a stay-at-home mom, and I was for awhile. Then Easton came along, and all he's known is mommy goes to work everyday!

3. Friends are like fine jewels. Enough said!

4. Being able to pursue my dream: photography! And a huge thank you to all my clients...it's because of YOU that I am able to do what I love.

5. The promise of changing seasons - when you live in Indiana, now is the time we pray for Spring to arrive early!

Things have been stressful lately...I have an intense class I am taking, the house is a mess, and the dishwasher broke. I needed to stop and be thankful, if even just for 1 minute!

I am caught up - haven't heard that come from my mouth in awhile! All pictures are proofed and ready to hand over to my clients! What a great feeling! I shared some of the above pictures in a post a few weeks back, but had to share the finished result! Today was her first day back to work, and I know how hard that can be!

Today was a good day - so much that went on last week at our school that I was ready for a fresh start to come! Not only did the students need it, but so did the teachers and staff! I think it's time to start the countdown to Spring Break - I know I'm ready!!

The flu bug was nice enough to pay us a visit this week. I've been home from work, and now Matt thinks he's getting it! No fun at all!

...so it's 2009, and this is my first post?! Where is January going??? I could write a ton of lame excuses, but really, they aren't excuses! I have been busy - am behind on my class for my Master's, haven't started my Access class yet, and have pictures from a baby shoot I haven't even proofed (sorry Jen!!). But, today is a snow day so I have grand intentions on writing my two reflection papers (one due today and one due tomorrow), meeting my mom and niece for lunch, and catching up on laundry that seemed to pile up overnight!

The boys went sledding with Matt Monday night - it was cold, but they both had a blast!

Easton laughed the entire way down!!

Here is one of the "un-proofed" pictures of baby Lincoln in his daddy's arm - he is such a sweet baby!
And, my baby turned "4" on Sunday - where did that time go???? It seems like just yesterday I was cuddling with him and enjoying every minute of having another baby in the house.
(And, no, that is not a six-fingered hand on his cake - I am no cake decorator, and that was my awful attempt at flames. Easton kept telling me it was his favorite cake, so that's all that matters!)

So, there is the last week in review...I hope to update more frequently so Kayla doesn't keep leaving me nasty comments!! Have a great one!

Ice, Program, and Package

Christmas vacation started a day early for us - no school today! We got hit pretty hard with an ice storm. Easton was happy to stay home with me, and Evan went sledding.

Easton's preschool Christmas program was last night (that's him in the middle with the red plaid shirt). He did such an awesome job - knew all the motions and all the words! He just loves school, and he got to be next to his two friends, Hayden and Caleb.

Dawn must be making up for the glitter card she sent me - look what I got in the mail today!!!!!
I can't wait to use the stamp on some winter scrapbook pages!! Thanks - we definitely need to plan a weekend in Chicago after the new year!!

Ban glitter forever!

Anyone who knows me knows I DESPISE GLITTER! It's a mess - it gets everywhere except for where you want it! I won't touch paper with glitter on it, or buy any type of scrapbooking embellishment with glitter (I don't care if they say it doesn't come off - it does!) Sorry if you have ever sent me something with glitter on it - I don't keep it (Matt's granny sent us a Christmas card and just by the sound of the envelope I could tell it had glitter on it...I opened the corner and that was it - good thing she doesn't read my blog!)

So, my dear friend Dawn, who I love dearly, thought it would be funny to send me this:I know it's hard to tell, but the entire border of the card is nothing but glitter. Cute card, though!

Matt is doing pretty good after surgery today...his throat is pretty sore, but he said he can breathe better than he ever has! Unfortunately, the doctor said his snoring will probably still wake me up!

Am planning on making some handmade Christmas gifts this weekend - my friend Sheila showed me an awesome tree project from Two Peas...Jennifer McGuire used scraps of paper, circle punches, and a spray bottle of water. Am hoping to pick up some supplies tomorrow and have the boys help me with the project.

I think Dawn knows I have been slacking in my blogging, and thus has tagged me. So, here it goes:
I have to name 6 Random Holiday things about myself.
1- When we were little, we always got to open a gift on Christmas Eve...it only took me 20 years to realize we ALWAYS got pajamas!
2- One of my favorite holiday traditions is that my mom gives each of us an ornament every year...it was something my Great Grandma used to do, too! When the boys are old enough to leave my house, they will have enough ornaments to decorate two trees!
3- Every year for Christmas on the Muffley side, we would have shrimp cocktail and ham sandwiches...and Grandpa always put butter on the buns first.
4- It wasn't Christmas until the smoke detector went off at Grandma Huff's house!
5- My favorite gift growing up was the Cabbage Patch kids my mom waited in line for hours to buy!
6- I hate real Christmas trees.

In other news, Matt is having his tonsils removed tomorrow - hope the recovery is quick! There's nothing I hate more than a sick man (or should I say taking care of one).

From my family to yours, hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving! I don't know about you, but this has ALWAYS been my favorite holiday - from the food, being with family, playing Whoopie (get your head out of the gutter, it's a card and dice game), I have fond memories of this holiday!

One thing we will will be doing today is documenting some of our Thanksgiving memories. We are spending the day with my mom's family, and I plan to take a picture of each person there. I also have a handout (teacher in me) for each of them to fill out, asking them their favorite Thanksgiving day food, fondest memory, what they are most thankful for this year, etc. I plan to make a scrapbook (and hopefully one for my grandma, too, for Christmas).

Even in the hard times our country is currently facing, we each have so much to be thankful for. Enjoy the day!

So tomorrow is a milestone in Evan's life...double digits! I can't believe it - I still consider myself on the "young" side, but when put in perspective with my kids ages, it begins to scare me! I will have pictures to share tomorrow - we actually had his birthday party last Sunday. We are headed out to meet our good friends for dinner tonight - today is Courtney's birthday! And then off to buy cupcakes for him to take to school tomorrow (the thought of baking scares me).

On a whiter note, the boys awoke to quite a bit of snow this morning. I snowed off and on last night, but there was a good 5-6 inches this morning! And here in Indiana, the first sign of snow means slower traffic - it seems that people forget what it's like to drive in this type of weather. I often think driving slower is more dangerous, but that's just my personal opinion (not that I speed or anything, mom).

It was a beautiful night for Trick-or-Treat! Our town had it on Thursday...our subdivision was so busy! Easton and Bullseye were troopers - he walked the entire time, dragging Bullseye's feet behind him! Evan had fun with his friends (I can't believe how quickly he is growing up!). And now, it's November already! Where has this year gone???

I'm Still Here!

Yes, I am still here, and yes, I know I have not posted in forever! Last week was Homecoming at our High School, and I am in charge of the activities! The students worked Monday - Thursday night from 6-9 at the bus garage, painting banners for the game on Friday! Then after the game was the Homecoming dance...let's just say it was a long weekend! (When I picked up Easton at the babysitter's house on Thursday, he said to me, "Mommy, I cried for you today cause I missed you so much!" - nothing like pulling at the heartstrings!)

Needless to say, I think Matt is happiest that I am done...especially since hunting season is underway!

...and fall sports are in full swing in the Reed household! Easton hates soccer...would prefer to throw himself on the ground and make the refs stop the game to see if he is hurt. Evan had his first football game (which I missed because I was busy watching Easton throw temper tantrums at his soccer game - and I am his coach).

We spent the weekend in Indy - Matt's Aunt Maria and cousin Ryan were visiting from Houston. We had a great time catching up with them, and the boys enjoyed some fun times outside!

Our first day of school was August 20. And this is all the pictures I have because someone is a little too grown up this year (looking at the picture of the two of us, I can't believe how much he has grown this summer)...he refused to let me take my camera into school - and I didn't force the issue! Sorry for no recent updates - I still need to post photos from Evan's first day of school. I will try and get that done before we leave for the weekend. We are heading to Indy - Matt's aunt and cousin are coming in from Houston.

Easton had his first soccer practice last night - he basically laid on the ground and cried for the majority of the 30 minutes. I'm not sure if he was crying because I am his coach, or if he was upset because he couldn't be first in line every time and be a ball hog! He has waited 3 years to finally get to play a sport - hopefully he will do better at our first game Tuesday night! Sports cost way too much - I have to buy shin guards, socks, and of course a soccer ball because, as Easton says, "When we go to see Grandma Deb I going to tell her I need a soccer ball".

I have a family photo shoot Saturday before we head out - will post pictures next week (you will recognize the family!!).

Have a nice long weekend - I know I am looking forward to it!

First day of Preschool

We have been talking up preschool for the last few months to no avail - Easton did not want to go. This past week, though, things have changed. We have tried to make a big deal about him starting school, and he caught on real quick. About 6:30 this morning, he woke up and asked me, "Now is it time to go to school?". He walked right in, hung up his Hulk backpack, and went straight to his classroom (and he immediately found the fishing pole!). There are only 4 boys in his class. When I went to pick him up, he came running outside to me, told me "thanks", and said, "When I wake up, I want to go back!". (I think he handled it better than I did!!!!)

Tomorrow Evan and I start school - hope we have as much fun as Easton!

So, I have visited Chicago 3 times in the last 4 weeks! This time, Evan and Easton joined me and my mom! It was a beautiful day - visited Lincoln Park Zoo and Navy Pier. The boys had a great time! Easton loved seeing the snakes at the zoo, and Evan rode the swings and the ferris wheel at Navy Pier.

Off to the water park tomorrow! Trying to get last minute adventures in before school starts in 1 1/2 weeks!!

Matt and his dad spent the afternoon Sunday canning pickles. Of course, our mini chef, Easton, could not resist helping out! I think they canned over 24 jars of dill, and 2 large ones of sweet! I can't wait to taste them! We have an abundance of cucumbers in our garden this year, so this was a good way to use them up!

Tonight was family night - fishing! (Grandma, many memories from the cottage and my infamous Snoopy pole came back to me tonight!) Evan has been fishing this past week with the neighbors. There is a small pond across the street from us at the town park. It was a perfect beginners fishing hole for Easton. And even better, every cast resulted in a catch!

Daddy helped cast, but Easton reeled it in each time...

Not sure where Easton learned this (he's never been to a "real" ball game where food is sold in the stands), but he put this on and immediately began to act and talk like a food vendor, telling us he had ketchup, pickles, and candy!

They may look like they love one another, but...!!!
And of course, every time I get the camera out, the boys want to use it (note to self: it may be time to buy them their own cameras!). Evan does a really good job (and thanks to him, I actually get to be in photos!) - he even commented after this shot that he may grow up and be a pretty good photographer someday! A boy after my own heart!!
Then, it's Easton's turn. The poor boy just holds the camera up and shoots (can't figure out how to close one eye and look through that tiny hole)! Lucky for him, he has pretty good aim! I only wish I would have had a camera to take his picture taking photos of us! What a cutie!!
